PAINTER’S NEW HOME IS A BLANK CANVAS

A MANCHESTER painter and decorator is putting his skills to work on a second home thanks to a local home builder’s 75-25% shared equity scheme.

Steven Savage, aged 25 from Failsworth, wanted a new-build home so he could start from scratch and decorate a ‘blank-canvas’ to his own taste, rather than taking over from where a previous owner has left off.

By taking advantage of McInerney’s 75-25% scheme, Steven and his partner Lucy Whelan have been able to buy a new home at Zest, Newton Heath, in addition to their current property, which they intend to rent out.

Lucy, aged 23, said "We had initially planned to stay nearer Failsworth and had our eye on the four-bedroom McInerney properties at Hollinwood in Oldham but we missed our chance and they were all sold.

"One day we passed the Zest development at Newton Heath and saw the big January sale boards saying £10,000 off and we thought now is our chance, we can’t afford to miss out again, literally. Plus, it’s so close to our little boy’s school it will definitely work out better for us."

The couple decided to seek advice from a McInerney approved mortgage advisor who they said helped them massively. Steven said: "I had initially thought we would do a part exchange but when the 75-25% scheme was explained we realised that would work better for us."

Visitors to Zest can beat the ‘crunch’ with McInerney’s 75-25% scheme, which is not a shared ownership scheme. Whether it’s a first or second home, customers still own 100% of their new home while McInerney has a second charge on the property for up to 25% of its value for 10 years.

Tracey Lowe sales manager for McInerney Homes North West said: "With the scheme you basically get 25% of your new home for free for ten years with no catch. It’s perfect for young couples.

"Steven and Lucy definitely have the right idea. When you buy a new home you are buying a pristine blank canvas. It’s a great opportunity for you and your family to make your mark on a property.

"Compared with making a period purchase our new homes can offer you peace of mind. There will be no need for repairs or hidden costs and you are supplied with good quality mod cons. Also, buyers mustn’t forget that new homes are so much more energy efficient and this really helps you save money."

Zest is located on Dean Lane, less than three miles from Manchester city centre, and features stylish one and two-bedroom apartments and sophisticated three and four-bedroom houses, creating a vibrant and wonderfully eco-friendly community of 139 homes. Prices for a three-bedroom home start at £98,250 with McInerney’s 75-25% scheme.

Visit Zest Thursday through to Monday, 10.30am until 5pm. For further information about the development call 0161 681 9013 or visit www.mcinerneyhomes.com.
